Why I Enjoy Serving as Your Startup Empowerment Coach
HELPING PEOPLE BECOME WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE MATTERS MOST TO ME AT THIS JUNCTURE OF MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE. I WOULD LIKE TO THINK WE ALL SPEND A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF YEARS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT MORE THAN JUST WHAT WE CAN DO OR WHAT WE HAVE DONE BUT WHAT FULFILLS US MOST ABOUT THE SKILLS WE’VE HONED OVER THE YEARS. I DON’T WANT ANYONE TO LIVE A LIFE OF PROFESSIONAL REGRETS BY ENTERING THEIR RETIREMENT YEARS WITH A REALIZATION THEY HAVE YET TO PURSUE WHAT FULFILLS THEM MOST. THAT THEY NEVER DECIDED TO STRETCH THEMSELVES BEYOND THEIR JOB DESCRIPTION. MANY OF THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE LONG TIME WANT TO BE ENTREPRENEURS WHO BELIEVE THEMSELVES TO BE MORE THAN A SIMPLE EMPLOYEE BUT A THRIVING ENTREPRENEUR. THIS NICHE OF BRILLIANT INDIVIDUALS ARE THE PEOPLE I WANT TO SERVE MOST AS AN ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL.
What is organizational management?
Most startups or entrepreneurs would be hard pressed to tell you what organizational management (OM) entails. It’s ok. I won’t be offended. Instead I’ll explain it to you. I consider organizational management to be your road map to success whether you are just getting started or established. Yes organizational management is widely practiced at larger corporate or enterprise size organizations and small businesses however many would be surprised to learn OM is equally important for micro-enterprises and startups. Even the organization of one needs strategic planning help where priorities are set, operations are strengthened, resources are focused and all stakeholders (external and internal) are working towards the same goal. Startups and solopreneurs have to have the ability to adapt to changes as they occur and OM helps to navigate and strategize as change is inevitable.
Sure, I could have used my MA in Organizational Management with a specialty in Organizational Leadership to stay in corporate America and work a politically charged agenda where bureaucracy, red tape, leader egos and ineffective middle management was at play. I knew, however, I would not attain fulfillment if I did so. I knew my impact would be defined on someone else’s terms and my contribution would always be untargeted and minimized when operating within larger organizations where accountability and follow-up ranks low in the realm of courageous leadership. I would not have the opportunity to work directly with individuals to strategically chart a course of action based on an individual’s future aspirations. That’s not a fulfilling life to me. It’s simply a paycheck and that just wasn’t enough for me.
Instead I choose to create transformational workshops for eventual entrepreneurs to begin the coaching conversation around working through bringing your idea to market whether it is a product or service. Typically, I’ll host a precursor workshopping event where a specific topic of importance within the strategic planning process of a solopreneur’s or startup’s journey is introduced. We’ll discuss an overview of the subject where influencers and professionals in the space are tapped to serve as mentors for the evening and add immense value to the workshop to get attendees started on working through a specific topic. Soon after I’ll host a follow up intensive workshop to take a much deeper dive into the topic creating specific actionable activities and outcomes to pursue. In this intensive workshop, attendees receive more one-on-one coaching to addresses their specific product or service with the expressed intent to move the needle forward.
